If you’ve never ridden a skateboard before—or even heard of an electric skateboard—don’t worry! We’re here to explain exactly how it works, so you can confidently jump in and enjoy the adventure
An electric skateboard (or eSkate) is just like a regular skateboard, but with one key difference: it’s powered by an electric motor, which means you can glide along effortlessly without pushing with your feet. It’s an easy and fun way to experience the thrill of riding on wheels, even if you’ve never skated before.
How Does it Work?
Electric skateboards are controlled using a handheld remote. Here’s how the basics work:

Acceleration: The remote has a trigger or wheel that you use to control your speed. Gently press forward, and the board will smoothly accelerate. Release or pull back, and the speed slows down or stops.

Steering: Just like a regular skateboard, you control your direction by using your feet (or leaning your body to the left or right for the most experts). The board will respond to your movements, turning based on your movements.

Braking: The electric skateboard has regenerative braking, which means the board will gently slow down when you pull back on the remote. This feature not only keeps you safe, but also helps recharge the battery while you ride.

Is It Easy to Ride?
Absolutely! Unlike traditional skateboarding, where you need to push with your feet and maintain balance at all times, an electric skateboard is much more beginner-friendly. You’ll start with both feet on the board, and the remote takes care of most of the hard work. With a little bit of guidance, you’ll be riding confidently in minutes—even if you’ve never skated before.

Riding an electric skateboard improves your surfing skills by enhancing your balance, coordination, and control over body movements—similar to the motions required in surfing. The leaning, turning, and shifting of weight on an eSkate mimics the way you maneuver on a surfboard. As you practice controlling speed and direction on land, these skills naturally transfer to the waves, helping you stay more stable and responsive while surfing. It’s an ideal cross-training activity for surfers looking to sharpen their technique.
